Introduction to EUROmediSAFE
EUROmediSAFE finished in 2022.
EUROmediSAFE is an Independent Research Consortium comprised of 11 partner institutions from Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and the UK, led by Prof Joan Morris (Queen Mary University of London). EUROmediSAFE has a framework contract with the European Medicines Agency to provide effectiveness and pharmacoepidemiology research, as and when required.
EUROmediSAFE has a strong focus on studies involving medication use during pregnancy, but also covers a range of other population groups. EUROmediSAFE members contribute to the EUROmediCAT Central Database which includes 180,000 cases from 15 EUROCAT (European network of population-based registries for the epidemiologic surveillance of congenital anomalies) registries for the years 1995-2012, of which almost 40,000 were reported as exposed to medicines (excluding vitamins, minerals or folic acid) in the first trimester of pregnancy.
